Fairvern is looking for another solution to keep its doors open.
In July the District of Muskoka issued two proposals to the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network. One was for three nursing stations in the district to help reduce the pressure on hospital emergency rooms. The other was for 12 continuing-care beds for Fairvern Long-Term Care Home.
The beds would be used for in-home care for those who don’t need hospital facilities, but are not quite well enough to be home on their own.
The proposal for the beds was part of a plan to make Fairvern sustainable.
The LHIN turned down both proposals, which now leaves the district looking for other solutions to keep Fairvern operating.
Fran Coleman, chair for the community services committee for the District of Muskoka, said Fairvern will not be viable within a few years if it doesn’t receive more beds.
“It could have a huge impact on jobs and caring for our citizens in that community, so I think this is something we shouldn’t just let go by the wayside,” she said.
The committee passed a resolution to continue looking for ways to make Fairvern sustainable, which was slated to come before district council on Oct. 1.
