Muskoka Lakes settles on meeting schedule

Muskoka Lakes finally settled on a new meeting schedule on Monday, one that doesn’t look all that different from previous schedules.
After three committee of the whole meetings and a summer recess, the proposed changes to the schedule were finally passed at the council table and don’t look all that different to previous schedules.
The schedule still has the meetings around the weekends, to accommodate cottagers who travel up from Toronto, as well as those councillors who live and work in Toronto, but it now has all the meetings in the same week instead of flanking every third weekend.
The meetings are also scheduled the same week as meetings for the District of Muskoka, as they were previously.
The lengthy meeting discussions prior to passing the new schedule created a stir about the long hours of meetings councillors put in during meeting weeks, the length of meetings in Muskoka Lakes, when to have closed sessions and a variety of other concerns.
Council has been working toward resolving the issues including meeting length.
The new meeting schedule begins October 1 and has council meeting Monday at 9 a.m., committee of the whole on Tuesday at 9 a.m., and committee of adjustment on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
