Overnight fire destroys building at Camp Muskoka Woods

ROSSEAU - A Rosseau-area youth resort had an unlucky start to Friday 13 when an overnight fire destroyed a wood building on the grounds.

Firefighters from both Muskoka Lakes and neighbouring Seguin Township were called to the blaze before the crack of dawn, and remained on scene until 6 a.m. to perform overhaul. A source told this newspaper that the fire destroyed a wood building used for storage, but that no injuries were reported.

The source reassured the community that youths and guests on the resort grounds were at least a kilometre away from the blaze when it happened. The source also said the camp’s management is expected to offer an official statement on what happened later in the day.

Situated on Lake Rosseau, the property is over 1,000 acres in size.

More to come.
