Huntsville partners with Waterloo for greenhouse gas inventory

HUNTSVILLE – It is one of the first steps in cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
Chris Marshall, Huntsville’s director of planning and sustainability, and Rebecca Francis, sustainability co-ordinator, met with a University of Waterloo professor to discuss partnering on a greenhouse gas emissions inventory project. The purpose of the project is to monitor the greenhouse gas emissions created by the town through its municipal operations.
As a result of the meeting, two university students will begin work on the inventory at the end of June and continue for four weeks.
Once the inventory is complete, the town will know how much greenhouse gas it creates and be able to take steps toward reducing that amount. The recommendation to inventory greenhouse gases created by municipal operations came from the Unity Plan implementation committee in 2011.
