Extras jumped at the chance to show off their zombie moves for a short film being shot in Burk's Falls on Tuesday evening.
BURK’S FALLS – A horde zombies was sighted at the north entrance of Burk’s Falls heading across the parking lot toward the entrance to Tim Horton’s on Tuesday night.
The horde lurched forward repeatedly as cameraman Patrick Gilbert captured take after take of the actors, including the lead zombie Kevin Hoffman, who is also the sound person and editor. The scene was part of a film by Lewis Hodgson of Burk’s Falls called Morning Zombies.
The extras who turned out for a chance to show off their George A. Romero style swagger all seemed to have different reasons for taking on the task.
For Shawn Murphy it was therapeutic.
“Because I have two fears in life; zombies and meteors,” he laughed. “It’s a way of overcoming one of my fears.”
It was a family event for father/daughter duo Barry and Amber Botham.
“It’s something I’ve never tried yet. Something cool,” said Barry.
“It’s something good to put on my resume,” said Amber.
Amber says she has no aspirations of becoming an actor, but who can resist and opportunity to say that they were a zombie?
Chris Hyland has his own rather interesting reason for wanting to lurch across a parking lot at twilight.
“Because it’s really cool,” he said. “And it’s dysfunctional and weird.”
Tatem Willard says it was his love of the undead genre that brought him out to give being a zombie a whirl. Willard is particularly fond of the Resident Evil series.
Whatever their reason for turning zombie, even if just for a short time one evening, they slipped easily into character and there was no doubt they were having fun.
