PARRY SOUND – There’s a new face with the West Parry Sound OPP.
Const. Brett Dutkus’ first day on the job in Parry Sound was January 8. Between then and last week he’s played on the OPP All-Stars hockey team against the NHL Alumni in a fundraiser for Special Olympics, and written18 tickets.
“I’m a pretty calm and reserved guy,” said Const. Dutkus. “People have said ‘thank you’ to me for a ticket.”
He finished his four-year university degree in forensics before starting the 19-weeks of police training with the OPP in the fall.
“I wanted to work for a service that provided endless opportunities,” said Const. Dutkus. “You can work anywhere in the province and anywhere in the world in conjunction with other police services.”
Although he grew up in the Niagara Region, he chose Parry Sound as his first posting with some familiarity with the region from visiting friends’ cottages here.
“Everyone is so super friendly,” said Const. Dutkus. “When go you by in a cruiser, people wave at you.”
Along with spending time on the ice playing hockey, Const. Dutkus also takes to the lacrosse field and enjoys reading history.
