New LCBO store coming
A new 12,000-square-foot LCBO store coming to Bracebridge will have a modern but trademark Muskoka appearance to its design, conceptual drawings submitted to the town show.
Slated to be built next door to the town’s Crabby Joe’s restaurant on Highway 118 West, the new LCBO store will be biggest one in Muskoka, according to Bracebridge development services assistant director Dana Rahkola. Plans submitted to the town by architect Duncan Ross show that the store will be a flat-topped building constructed with brick and imitation stone.
“The building design is not a full-on replication of turn-of-the-century detailing, but it respects the ideas of the older building designs,” Ross said in a letter to the town. “Brick is a typical material in urban areas of the town where spread of fire is retarded by masonry construction.”
He said the new building’s design draws inspiration from a number of older buildings around town, including the Bracebridge post office and the former Simply Cottage and Muskoka Bean buildings.
The new LCBO building will mean the existing plaza housing PD Murphy Jewellers, Dr. Tim Griffioen’s medical clinic and the former Rogers video store will be completely demolished starting this month. The tenants were told their leases were to be terminated a few months ago. Crabby Joe’s and the nearby Source for Sports store, however, will not be affected by the new store’s arrival.
