Blues show beats the pros

Huntsville Forester

The Bracebridge high school is pulling all the stops for their eleventh annual blues show.
Jim Tomlinson, guitar teacher at Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School, has been working with the Grade 11 and 12 students for many years.
This year, he said, there is unbelievable talent.
“We’ve got some guitar shredders that, they’re playing lead solos better than the lead guitar player in Pink Floyd did,” Tomlinson said.
The Grade 11 and 12 vocal, instrumental, and guitar students at BMLSS are joining forces to present a night of blues to area residents.
The evening will include a variety of blues and blues-inspired songs and will vary from a cappella music to instrumental and guitar.
Some of the featured artists are The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Alannah Myles, Robert Johnson, Janis Joplin and others
On Dec. 19, the Grade 12 students will also perform a holiday rock concert.
Tomlinson said the students are very focused, gathering to practise every day during their lunch break.
“The two shows are the highlight of the semester for these kids,” he said.
Guitar and vocal classes at the high school both begin in Grade 10, while the instrumental class is offered in Grade 9.
Tomlinson said the guitar students will also be the emcees.
Admission is free, though donations will be accepted to offset costs. All remaining donations will be given to the theatre.
