PARRY SOUND - A bone found by a family pet was brought into the West Parry Sound OPP detachment at 5:15 p.m. on October 17.
A concerned citizen contacted police regarding what they believed to be a “hip bone” found near their home.
The Town of Parry Sound resident said they believed the bone to be from an animal, but asked police to investigate nonetheless.
The bone was taken to a physician who determined it did come from an animal, but they were unsure as to what kind.
That was one of 151 calls for service the West Parry Sound OPP responded to from October 17 to 23. Others included 10 calls to 911, five drug offences, five charges under the liquor license act, two break and enters, and seven motor vehicle collisions.

Police were called to a James Street business at 11:04 a.m. on October 18 regarding a break and enter that occurred sometime the night before. Unknown suspects entered the store and stole $1,200 worth of various merchandise ranging from smoking paraphernalia to adult toys. There was no sign of forced entry found at the store. Neighbouring businesses were canvassed and a detailed statement was provided to police, outlining the items taken. The investigation continues. Police ask anyone with information that may identify the suspects, or lead to the  recovery of the stolen items, to contact West Parry Sound Constable Robert McKnight at 1-888-310-1122.
At 3:09 p.m. on October 19, police responded to a report of an extremely intoxicated man passed out on Seguin Street near a business parking lot. The man was located and arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. He was held in custody for his safety, until he was sober. The 62-year-old man of Parry Sound, was served a $65 ticket under the liquor license act.
Police were dispatched at 11:54 p.m. on October 20 regarding two men fighting on the front lawn of a Rover Street home. Officers arrived shortly after midnight and spoke with several youth on the premises; none of who appeared to be injured or fighting, as was reported.
However, officers did locate a highly intoxicated 17-year-old female. Concerned for the teen’s health and safety, the girl’s parents were located and she was placed in their care. The youth were warned by police about drinking under age and the possible charges that could be issued under the liquor license act.
A Seguin Township cottager contacted West Parry Sound OPP at 6:56 p.m. on October 21 regarding a suspicious man operating a green ATV in the area of Kapikog Road South.
The complainant said the suspect approached their residence, coming half-way up the driveway and fled when he saw one of the cottage owners. Earlier in the day youth had seen the suspect pulling an empty trailer behind his ATV.
The investigating officer did not locate the suspect and has closed the investigation. West Parry Sound CSO Charles Ostrom urges the public to notify police immediately regarding suspicious persons, vehicles or activities and to call 911 if public safety is in question.
Police were called by a Town of Parry Sound employee at 3:28 p.m. on October 22 regarding orange graffiti on a building in town. Sometime between Thursday evening and Friday morning, unknown persons spray painted on a municipal building adjacent to the Mac’s Convenience store at 95 Church Street. Information received said that this was the fourth incident of vandalism to that particular building. OPP are stepping up their patrol during the evening hours, as well as the daytime patrol already performed. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Sgt. Dawn Connor at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-22-8477.
Police received a call at 10:07 a.m. on October 23 regarding a hit and run at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Parry Sound. An unattended and parked 2004 burgundy Chrysler Intrepid had been hit by another vehicle at approximately 9 a.m. The suspect vehicle left the scene, but it is believed to have been captured on surveillance video. An officer in the area at the time of the collision was advised, but was unable to assist, due to a priority call. Anyone with information that may assist in identifying the suspect vehicle is asked to call Constable Tim Nicksy at 1-888-310-1122.
