Beaver Creek escapee recaptured
Police have recaptured a Gravenhurst prison inmate who escaped over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
Christopher Zach, 35, had been missing from the Beaver Creek prison since Thanksgiving Day, Oct. 8, when prison staff could not find him during a head count before noon. Zach was serving a two-year, nine-month sentence for firearms-related offences.
On Monday, Oct. 22, police announced that Zach’s brief taste of freedom was over.
“The OPP Bracebridge detachment are reporting that Christopher Zach, the missing inmate from Beaver Creek Institution, has been located and arrested in the Toronto area and is now in custody,” said OPP Const. Derek Wickett.
Zach’s escape and quick apprehension comes nearly a year after another inmate escaped from the same prison over the Christmas long weekend. That inmate was recaptured in Barrie a few days later on Jan. 3.
