PARRY SOUND – It costs about $1,000 a year for the Ministry of Transportation to remove graffiti on West Parry Sound rock cuts.
The most common time of year for it to pop up, according to the ministry, is summer, which could be why area resident Billy Hamm, of Seguin, links it with those who don’t live here year round.
“I know a lot of the younger generation and they don’t want to look at it,” he said.
People spray painting their names, their love for another, or swear words are something he wants to see an end to through public awareness.
“(It) seems to be becoming (a) bigger and bigger (problem),” said Hamm.  
The job of removing graffiti from the side of provincial roadways in West Parry Sound is contracted out to Carillion Canada Inc.
“Carillion is actively monitoring and removing graffiti from areas of public view that can cause driver distraction and affect highway aesthetics,” said ministry regional issues and media advisor Gordan Rennie.
