McKellar Library
The library board and staff would like to thank everyone who came and supported our recent 30th anniversary celebrations and annual yard sale. Cake and coffee were served. Funds raised from the yard sale will go towards the operating expenses of the library. Winner of the gift basket draw was Christa Horn of McKellar.
In 2011 there were 1,425 signatures on the sign-in sheet to use the Internet at the library.
Some of the new books in the library this week are Calico Joe by John Grisham, I'll Walk Alone by Mary Higgins Clark and Saving Calico Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman.
Library hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, from 12 noon until 5 p.m., Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. and Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
McKellar United Church
On July 29 McKellar will host Heritage Day at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with a lunch to follow. This event will feature museum objects and information about the past of McKellar. Beth Emerson will speak of memories of the church and Evelyn Moore will be part of an interview to share her knowledge.
All are invited to attend and participate.
Turkey Shoot, but no feathers
The Parry Sound Hunters and Anglers’ (PSAH) clubhouse at 41 Brooks Road might have been the scene where many turkey feathers may have fluttered to the ground.
But not was the case during the turkey shoot held this last Saturday, July 14 where members and guests had the opportunity to shoot .12 gauge, #2 shot, at 6X6 targets, the number of total strikes deciding the winning shot.
No turkeys actually were involved, hence, no feathers.
Usually considered a man’s sport, it was interesting and welcomed to see Lee Ann Scriven - a lone female who certainly showed that shotguns are not just for men, but also for female shooters - win the turkey shoot. Congratulations to Lee Ann.
Thank you also to Glenburney Lodge which supplied barbecued ribs and chicken wings that only a Hoover vacuum might compete with when people got a taste.
Everyone, of course, is welcome to join Parry Sound Anglers and Hunters. Trap shooting takes place Tuesday nights from 6 p.m. until dark, and also Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon. Rifle range, archery range and pistol range to members and invited guests is also made available. Members hope to see you there.
