Every girl will have the opportunity to look elegant at the prom or grad this year thanks to a local dress giveaway, held on Sunday, June 3.
Four racks of dresses, all organized by colour, were waiting for students in the back room of Kudos Kuisine on Bay Street. This new prom/grad dress giveaway was open to everyone and dresses were offered to students at no cost.
“I organized this event because I understand the issue of not being able to afford a fancy dress,” said Brittany Mahnke, who organized the event and collected dresses from residents for the giveaway.
Accessories
Shoes, purses and some jewelry w ere also collected. Students were free to browse and try on dresses and take home the donated items.
“The event was very successful and there were many girls that took home dresses,” said Mahnke, who was grateful to Kudos for the free space for the event and to everyone who donated a dress or a suit for this event.
She says this event will become an annual event to be held each spring. Any remaining dresses will be stored and used for next year’s event.
“I hope this event will gain more momentum in its second year and that I can make more young people feel good about themselves,” she says. “It was a very inspiring day for me, and I hope all the girls that took home dresses feel beautiful at their graduation or prom.”
