Update: Military in West Parry Sound
(Editor's note: This email was sent out Friday, May 4.)
Good morning everyone, wanted to bring you up to date with the information as I know it. I think the military did a good job last night with bringing in the torrential rain with lightening for the troops that are staying in tents, especially the soldiers located in the quarry in McKellar. Then the fog rolled in giving them a great disguise to bring in their equipment so that no one could see them. I was told this morning their motto is “if it’s not raining it’s not training”. Ok, now I get it. Boy, they sure do it up right. I was travelling back from Argyle/Loring late last night and saw many of them on the move and couldn’t help but think they would be wishing they were home in their warm dry beds. However, not to be, they are arriving in the Parry Sound area more and more each day. I saw a few armoured personnel carrier vehicles around the north end of town this morning and couldn’t help think that these vehicles wouldn’t make it through the drive thru at Tim Horton’s so it would be very busy in the restaurant this morning.
We will see soldiers and vehicles at the Old Salt Docks/smelter wharf, the Kinsman Club, Foley Fairgrounds and a few other locations. Soldiers will also be ... at the BOCC on May 6 & 7 so there may be a few more in the centre of town with an opportunity for people to get to meet them.
Captain Timms has certainly indicated that soldiers will always take the time to spend a few minutes chatting, however, they are on a “mission” and keeping that the focus.
I am sure that I will have some more news over the weekend and will keep you up to date with that information.
