Victim in fatal police chase named
PARRY SOUND – The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) continues to investigate a fatal police pursuit Sunday night.
West Parry Sound OPP stopped a southbound vehicle on Highway 69, just south of Sudbury, at 11:47 p.m. on April 8.
The driver of the car took off after initially stopping the vehicle for police, according to police.
Officers were attempting to use a spike belt to stop the vehicle, but the fleeing vehicle struck two cruisers and left the road, according to the SIU.
The collision killed 38-year-old Lisa Marie Charbonneau, of Ottawa. Three officers were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The SIU investigates anytime there is a death that involves Ontario’s police.
The fatal collision closed the highway until about 11 a.m. Monday.
