BRACEBRIDGE — Art in the Heart, the unique partnership that promotes the sale of local art in downtown Bracebridge, is returning for a third summer.
The Town of Bracebridge, along with partners Muskoka Arts & Crafts and Muskoka Small Business Centre have announced a call for entries for this season’s event.
The call for entry is available through any of the partners or their websites. The deadline for applications is April 30.
Art in the Heart was launched in 2008. It is designed to assist new artists by providing them with an opportunity to showcase their work while at the same time create a new attraction in the core of Bracebridge. Artists showcase their wares in alleyways and public spaces along Manitoba Street.
This year, Art in the Heart will take place Saturdays and Sundays from July 3 until Aug. 1.
Again in 2010, organizers will provide an opportunity for artists to ask questions about the program prior to applying. Three open house sessions will be held to allow artists to learn more about the program.
“We’ve found that a face-to-face get-together is the best way to alleviate anxiety over what will be the first public showing for many of these artists,” said Cheryl Kelley, the town’s director of economic development.
Kelley said open houses will be held in Bracebridge, Gravenhurst and Huntsville.
Artists will continue to receive support through Muskoka Small Business Centre.
In addition to the basic training offered to first-time participants, two additional modules have been developed to accommodate returning artists.
“We are able to provide these new and emerging artists with coaching and guidance in submitting their applications,” said Deena Brock, managing consultant for Muskoka Small Business Centre. “Once approved, artists will be exposed to a customized workshop to ready them for presenting themselves and their art to the public. The response to these training sessions has been very positive.”
Elene Freer, curator/coordinator for Muskoka Arts & Crafts said Art in the Heart is an innovative program that nurtures and encourages new and emerging artists to take the next step in their development.
“These artists represent the future of our artistic community in Muskoka and Art in the Heart provides them with the essential skills to realize their potential,” she said.

Art in the Heart open houses will take place at the following locations: March 30 at Chapel Gallery in Bracebridge; April 7, at Your Independent Grocer in Gravenhurst; and April 8, at Your Independent Grocer in Huntsville. All sessions begin at 7 p.m.
