Police capture escaped inmate

ENGLAND.

GRAVENHURST - Beaver Creek Institution escapee Aaron England, 32, is back in custody and facing two new firearm-related charges.

England was arrested by police at a St. Catharines residence Wednesday afternoon. Police said he attempted to flee the home, but was captured after a short foot chase.

England will be returned to Muskoka where he will face a charge of being unlawfully at large.

Niagara Regional Police have also charged him with unauthorized possession of a weapon and careless storage of a prohibited weapon.

England escaped the Gravenhurst minimum security prison sometime between 7 and 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 11.

He reportedly placed a dummy in his room to fool prison staff.

Police believe he was then picked up by a vehicle and left the area.

England had been serving a 10-year sentence for criminal organization and counterfeit money-related charges.

Prior to his escape, he was eligible for release within the next two years.

He was believed to have ties with the St. Catharine’s and Niagara region and police had been receiving tips he was seen in that area.

Niagara police have charged two people in connection with England’s arrest.

Christopher Murray, 40, of St. Catharines is charged with being an accessory after the fact, unauthorized possession of a weapon and careless storage of a prohibited weapon.

Mandy Tappay, 46, of St. Catharines faces the same three charges

All parties were scheduled to appear in a St. Catharines bail court on Thursday.
