Lakers score two wins

TOSS UP.. The high school boys basketball season got underway Dec. 4 and with two games played last week by schools in Muskoka-Parry Sound, the league was at least temporarily shut down Dec. 10 because of work to rule action. BRACEBRIDGE - The senior boys’ Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School Lakers began the 2012-13 basketball season as defending Muskoka-Parry Sound champs, but they may not have the chance to put their title on the line.
The high school boys’ basketball season began last Tuesday, Dec. 4, but with two games under their belts, things shut down Dec. 10, as teachers accelerated their work-to-rule campaign.
Things were looking positive too, as the Bracebridge senior boys’ head coach Mike LeBlanc’s crew beat Almaguin in their first game of the year Dec. 4, 64-55 and picked up another win Dec. 6 over Gravenhurst.
The club had beaten out Huntsville last season to win the MPS championship banner but now may be facing the end of this season.
Teachers began a work-to-rule campaign Dec. 10 and will forego extracurricular activities for the time being. Gravenhurst High School athletic director Corry Ziorjen explained if the action does not last for much more than a couple of weeks, there is a chance the teams will be able to pick up and continue on with the season, but now, all sports will be on hold at local high schools.
