PSHS students return to class after morning evacuation

PARRY SOUND – Around 9:30 a.m. Parry Sound High School students were evacuated after smoke filled sections of the building. According the Near North District School Board the cause of the smoke was a small mechanical fire in an area away from the classrooms. The Parry Sound Fire Department arrived on scene and contained the small fire.
All students were safely evacuated to the school’s emergency site, the Parry Sound Mall.
Although school officials moved all students to the mall and planned to cancel classes, the board resumed classes this afternoon, but buses will still pick students up at the Parry Sound Mall.
