ImagineNative film tour festival makes a local stop

PARRY SOUND - ImagineNative, a festival that celebrates works by indigenous people, is bringing its northern Ontario film and video tour to the Parry Sound High School (PSHS) on February 8 at 7 p.m.
Parry Sound is just one of 11 stops across the province.
“It’s a great opportunity to watch, learn, hear and see stories about First Nations people,” said Johna Hupfield, Ojibwe language and indigenous studies teacher at the high school, who helped organize the event.
The feature film, titled Reel Injun, features Clint Eastwood, Robbie Robertson, Sacheen Littlefeather, John Trundell and Adam Beach.
The evening event is free, open to the public, and takes place in the main gym at high school. Tea and cookies will be available to purchase during the show.
ImagineNative will be showing short films to students Monday afternoon, including a short film titled Clear Cut, filmed by a graduate of the school.
“We want to share a part of indigenous film and cutlure to as many people who would like to learn about our stories.” said Hupfield. “Last year’s film was quite amazing, so I am suspecting that this one will be good too.”
After Parry Sound, the event is heading to Sault Ste Marie, Timmins, and North Bay, among other stops.
