SEGUIN TWP - The federal government is investing almost half a million dollars in the Parry Sound Municipal Airport.
Tony Clement, member of Parliament for Parry Sound-Muskoka, announced Friday morning that the Federal government is making a significant investment in local infrastructure.
The $484,650 investment will help Seguin Township extend fire suppression services at the airport and construct a new 10,000-square-foot hangar.
Once complete, the hangar will be leased to Eagle Aircraft Inc. to accommodate its expansion from Toronto Island Airport to the Parry Sound Airport.
“Business development at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport is a proven economic driver for this region and the Harper Government is proud to support the ongoing expansion of this important facility,” said Clement. “Today’s announcement will help put in place the necessary infrastructure to attract private-sector investment to the area, create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity.”
Expansion
The expansion will create five highly skilled jobs according to the federal government.
Extending the airport’s infrastructure will open the door for further private sector investment.
David Conn, mayor of Seguin Township thanked the government for supporting the community’s business development.
“It’s an exciting time at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport and [Friday’s] announcement will help us build on the positive economic momentum we continue to generate,” said Conn.
The funding is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program. The program’s stated goal is to support projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business development and growth and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
