PARRY SOUND - To celebrate Earth Week, the Scotiabank in Parry Sound has partnered with the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve to raise environmental awareness.
Activities are planned throughout the week, including a formal presentation of the Biosphere Charter plaque. Staff decorated the bank with banners and earth-themes, and organized a fundraising bake sale which was held on Monday.
Customers are invited to give donations in the branch or online gbbr.ca
Dress-down fundraiser
On Friday, the Scotiabank staff hold their own dress-down fundraiser. Some staff have pledged to double their donations if bank manager and officers, dress up in wildlife costume. Other costumes that may appear on staff include a black bear and a click beetle, generously on loan from Killbear Provincial Park.
Wendy Kelly, Personal Banking Officer and organizer of the event, says that staff were motivated to support the Biosphere because of the environmental education program, called Lessons-in-a-Backpack.
“We learned that the program benefits our local schools in so many ways – getting kids outdoors, teaching them about the wildlife we have here, and getting them involved in the Biosphere concept.”
