Takin’ it easy with the Michael Granka Band

Our Very Own

It felt like ‘Northern Comfort’ at the Royal on Saturday night, January 14, when we listened to the tunes of “The Michael Granka Band.” The talent and social ability of these fine artists made for a fun-filled evening.
“The members are like a revolving door,” said Michael Granka, who has had his band for a little more than 25 years.
Many players in our area have joined Michael in putting on an unrehearsed show on more than one occasion, venue and genre. They have been included in the Parry Sound Christmas CD for Harvest Share, performed at The Log Cabin for New Year’s Eve and are the mainstay for Lobsterfest in Pointe au Baril.
This more constant cast of gifted musicians involved Michael Granka as lead guitarist and vocalist, Gary Robb engaging in drums, Joe Whittaker fine-tuning bass and Craig Harley on keyboards. The one consistent miss was Treacy Harris who also shares in lead vocals with his guitar.
Michael has always loved music but it wasn’t until he was 21 after receiving his first guitar that he formed his band and took it on the road.  In the last few years, he has been furthering his knowledge in guitar as his passion to play is increasing enormously.
A request to play in his high school band brought Gary Robb to the world of music and drums.
Following the sounds of country rockabilly brought the group he was in to open for ‘Jason McCoy.’  Now adding rock and roll to his style, he explained that doing this now is a lot easier than before.
Joe Whittaker, Craig Harley and Treacy Harris have a main common element. All three have been inspired by their fathers, who for the most part, are still participating in the art of entertainment.
Joe believes that if you listen to music from the past you can find some form of connection to newer compositions.
The Michael Granka Band’s first song was “Take It Easy” by the Eagles, which was a great choice as I felt it was a portrayal of their own motivational philosophy.
