The Muskoka Ski Club’s (MSC) K1 team hosted a giant slalom race on Jan. 30, during one of the coldest days of the winter so far.
The race was delayed an hour because of the extremely cold temperatures.
Local team The Heat took all six podium positions to give them a 306-130 win over the Chedoke (Coldwater) ski team. Ben Barnes, Mark Draper, and Graydon Grant took first, second, and third respectively for the boys.
The girls’ podium winners were Talia Keay (first), Rachel May (second), and Lise Grant (third).
The K2 team won its race against the Jozo Weider Ski Club (Blue Mountain) Saturday afternoon at Mount St. Louis by a score of 288-232.
The girls swept the podium with Seanna Payne (first), Aria Alezadeh (second) and Samantha Eydt (third). John Sinclair was first and Stephen Draper was second for the boys.
The J Alpine Cobras travelled to Snow Valley in Barrie on Sunday for their giant slalom race. They faced the strongest team in the division and host team, Snow Valley.
The Cobras lost their first race in four years to this team by a score of 294-228. Scott Litchfield was the only podium finisher for the MSC with a third-place finish.
On Jan. 23, under clear blue skies and sunny conditions, the club hosted a Nancy Greene stubbie slalom race (short gates).
Courtney Payne’s Nancy Greene Flyers raced against a strong Horseshoe Valley team and Horseshoe came out victorious with a 262-171 win.
The top finishers for the MSC were Addie Howell (seventh), Theodore Pickard (11th), and Eric O’Brien (12th).
Three of the MSC race teams hit the highway on Jan. 24 and were able to complete their races before the rain showers started. The Nancy Greene Double Diamonds, coached by Rod Adamson, travelled to Devil’s Glen in Collingwood for their stubbie slalom race.
They were narrowly defeated by Georgian Peaks by six points. Jacob Barnes and Gage McGee finished first and third respectively for the MSC.
Warren Wilkinson’s Swiss Chalet-sponsored K2 Heat team raced against the Heights of Horseshoe Blue team at the Jozo Reider Ski Club at Blue Mountain.
The Heat’s girls took all three podium positions in this giant slalom race, while the boys took two of the three podium positions. Aria Alezadeh, Samantha Eydt, and Seanna Payne were first, second and third respectively.
John Sinclair clinched first for the boys and Steven Draper followed in second place.
Al Cronk and his J Alpine Miele-sponsored Cobras ventured to the Brimacombe Ski Club in Oshawa to race a giant slalom against the Chedoke Ski Club.
The MSC team defeated Chedoke 280-244 for their second straight win.
The girls swept the podium with Katie Harper placing first, Michaela Ruby finishing second, and Alex Rawn and Chelsea Alexander tying for third.
Luke Howell claimed second place for the MSC boys.
