Snokhana autocross draws race enthusiasts to Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE - A decommissioned airstrip may appear not to have much to offer, but for those who like to live on the edge and race rally cars, it can provide all sorts of entertainment.
This past weekend, March 3, the Toronto Subaru Club and SPDA Motorsport club hosted Snokhana, a winter autocross for all skill levels at the Deerhurst airstrip.
Local rally car enthusiast Steve Nairn, owner of Sport Tech Performance, pitched the location to the clubs.
“I’ve always been a fan of racing but wanted to be able to do it in a safe and controlled environment,” said Nairn, the event co-ordinator.
The clubs came up to scout the location and determined it was a good vicinity for racing.
About 80 rally cars were on site, with more than 50 racing.
There were four classes drivers could participate in. Brad Finch won the turbo all-wheel drive class. Jay Chang won the front-wheel drive class. Andrew Bulley won the rear-wheel drive class; and Andrew Ross won the all-wheel drive naturally aspirated class.
Nairn said he and the clubs hope to hold more events in the summer and again in the winter.
“It was a huge success; the feedback was really positive,” said Nairn. “I couldn’t be happier.”
