Exciting week of curling in Canada

HUNTSVILLE - This is an exciting week for men’s curling in Canada. Tune in to TSN this weekend to see the finals of the Briar.
This is Canada’s top curling event for men and with the trials coming up for selecting the Olympic team, winning the Briar this year holds more importance than just winning the national title.Last week was the ladies’ turn and a dynamite young woman, Rachel Homan, aged 23, and her team from Ottawa took the Scottie’s Tournament of Hearts by storm, certainly proving this is not just a sport for the middle aged and older!
Here at the Huntsville Curling Club our more humble endeavours continue. We are into our last month of curling with a few bonspiels to go and the third draw underway. We recently were proud hosts of the winter senior games and held many an exciting game at the club.
We have the winners of the second draw mixed Wednesday night league. This is a great league for meeting other curlers. Ladies and gents of all skill levels get together for an evening of curling and camaraderie. Did you know that it is traditional for the winning team to buy their opponents a drink after the game? So even if you lose, you win!
Ending our year is the annual Steak Spiel. Two days of curling ending with a steak banquet cooked by some of the wonderful volunteers from our club.So enjoy watching the curling on television this week and hopefully you will be inspired to join us at the club.
