HUNTSVILLE - The selection process for the 2013 Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame may have concluded, but the hall’s committee is again asking residents for their help in choosing other individuals deserving of recognition.
Board chair Wendy McConnell has announced the committee is now accepting nominations for the male and female sports personalities of the year.
“The nomination process is going to be coming from the various sports groups in town, to nominate their sports person of the year, male and female, who exemplifies a great presence in their chosen sport, whether it be an athlete, builder, referee, umpire, manager or coach,” said McConnell. “This is the criteria that eventually will get these people into the hall of fame someday.”
The process for nominating someone for the male and female sports personalities of the year is similar to the one used for the selection of the inductees to the 2013 Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame.
Sporting groups are asked to submit a short bio on the person nominated along with the sport that the nominee is involved with.
The guidelines for nominations are as follows:
• the nominee must be currently involved in their respective sport (not retired from sport);
• there is no age limit;
• the nominee must reside in the Huntsville or surrounding catchment area.
McConnell said all nominations or any questions about the nominating process must be sent to her at - connell8@sympatico.ca - on or before a March 31 deadline.
The name of the two winners will be announced in mid-April, the same time the slate of the 2013 Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame inductees will be announced.
The two winners will receive their awards during the 2013 induction ceremony, which will take place May 11.
