HUNTSVILLE - An official with the 2013 Muskoka Loppet is urging those interested in participating to pre-register now for the annual race, slated for Jan. 27 at Arrowhead Provincial Park.
Louise Choquette of the Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club is responsible for the publicity/advertising for the 2013 race. She said while some people like to wait until the day of the race to register, organizers would prefer skiers sign up at the club’s website (www.arrowheadnordic.ca.) beforehand so club officials can be better prepared.
People can also save a few dollars by pre-registering as the price for the loppet goes up five dollars after the early bird date of Jan. 20,
This year’s event starts at 10:30 a.m. The distances include a 5 km course for “social skiers” and children, and more challenging 15 and 30 km courses for recreational and competitive skiers. This event uses the classic style of skiing (no skating).
The Muskoka Loppet is a classic event and was revived 11 years ago by the Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club, led at the time by Tracy Marshall. The race was the first in the revived series. ?
The event had to be cancelled in 2004 (due to trail conditions) and 2011 (due to extreme cold) but more than 200 competitors have entered the loppet each year since its reincarnation.
If someone would like to volunteer for any of the events, please send an e-mail to the club at firstname.lastname@example.org.
