Tournament assists local charities

HUNTSVILLE - There was great fun and money raised for good causes at the Canada Summit Centre this past weekend.
The occasion was the 37th annual Huntsville Oldtimers hockey tournament, with 28 teams competing over the three days.
In the end, the tournament was able to raise $850 each  for the local Me to We program and the Salvation Army Toy Drive.
The Huntsville tournament has long been a favourite in oldtimer hockey circles for decades and has attracted players and teams even south of the border.
In the 35 year-old A division, the title went to the Huntsville Goodtymers, who beat Balmy Beach of Toronto by a 5-2 score. The B division crown was captured by Quip Tech of Barrie downed the Puck Kings of Midland/Huntsville by a 6-1 count. Sudbury defeated the Bracebridge Old Wicks 5-0 for the C title.
The A division title in the 45-older age group, North Bay defeated the Huntsville nearly assembled squad 4-2 for the A title. The B championship was won by Stayner, who beat Twice a Year from North Bay by a close 2-1 score. The Huntsville Silver Bullets, who beat Lake Simcoe 6-1, captured the C title. The D final went to Erin Second Wind, who edged the Huntsville Bushwackers 3-1.
