MacMillan is the big winner at Skokie Skate

HUNTSVILLE - Early morning practices paid off for a few of the Huntsville Skating Club athletes this past weekend.
Connor MacMillan was the big winner at Huntsville’s home competition – Skokie Skate - with two gold medals, given for both his well-executed short and long programs.
It is great to see another male skater following in the footprints of Jacob Cryderman; another fantastic home club hero.
With such a busy weekend at the Canada Summit Centre, we were thrilled with our skaters’ results. Skokie is one of the first competitions of the year and many of our club’s talented team members were ready and geared to go.
Kira Tempest was able to capture a bronze, and Kaitlyn Brushey won silver in the introductory level. Kaitlyn Belfry placed eighth in her flight on a very busy Saturday in the Don Lough Arena.
Starskate’s Peyton Burmeister placed third in her flight and was thrilled with her bronze medal. Mary MacMillan placed fifth, Alex Handsor placed fifth and Elizabeth MacNeil placed sixth – all with great skates to be proud of for this competition.
Our competitive skaters faired well too with Maggie Blackmore in fifth place and Claire Jarvis in seventh place. Skokie is a great practice run for Connor and these two skaters as next weekend brings sectionals, where Huntsville hopes to place high enough to advance.
The amount of work that goes into a competition like this is epic, both for the athletes and for the volunteers who give their time to making this event a great one.
