We in the riding of Parry Sound-Muskoka are very fortunate to have such an involved, hard working Member of Parliament. You can find him at all kinds of community functions lending his presence and support.
He rides in the Santa Claus Parade, participates in the swearing-in-ceremony of new Canadians on July first, and last Saturday he was at the farmers’ market at River Mill Park.
I’m not just saying this because Huntsville benefitted so immensely from his largesse during the G8. I’m sure that the good folks in Rosseau are still singing Hossanas of Praise for that gorgeous lighthouse carved from a tree trunk. Yes, we do appreciate the amenities of the Canada Summit Centre, though other taxpayers throughout the land may not be that enthusiastic about it.
That’s why I find it so difficult to take him serious when I receive his pamphlets proclaiming “we care about our seniors,” while his government keeps future seniors from retiring until age 67, instead of the present 65. Or “We care about the environment,”which is such an outright misconstuction of the reality of the recent shredding of environmental protective measures. Just read the excellent well researched factual letter in the Forester of Aug. 15, by Ellen Fox, who gives a point by point description of the new reality of ideology-driven changes. It’s an eye opener.
I cannot help but think that the ghost of Dr. Joseph Goebbels (Minister of Propaganda during the Nazi regime) has somehow found a job as spinmeister with the present government. Or maybe all PMO staff have read and are following the teachings from George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty Four, wherein (I’m quoting from Wikipedia) “the Ministry of Truth is Oceania’s propaganda ministry.”
It is responsible for any necessary falsification of historical events. The word truth in the title Ministry of Truth should warn, by definition, that the ‘minister’ will self-serve its own ‘truth’: the title implies the willful fooling of posterity using ‘historical’ archives to show ‘in fact’ what ‘really’ happened.
As well as administering truth, the administration deploys a new tongue-in-cheek language amongst administrators called Newspeak, in which, for example, truth is understood to mean statements like 2 + 2 = 5 when the situation warrants.”
Dear Mr. Clement that is what I’m afraid of when I receive your taxpayers-paid-for-pamphlets. As I said in the opening statement, I think you are an excellent MP, but unfortunately you are an even better party/government sycophant. Mr. Clement do you really believe yourself, in your heart of hearts, the bilge (I’d like to use a stronger word, but, I’m sure, the editor would not allow it) you shovel our way?
