GRAVENHURST - Gravenhurst’s YMCA will be opening its doors to all on Family Day to support healthy habits and kicking off its Strong Kids campaign to make sure everyone has a fair shake at new lifestyles.
“It’s going to be a really busy weekend for us here at the Y,” said facility general manager Tara Gregor. “Anybody and everybody is invited to come out, try out the pool, some programs or the equipment and see how easy and fun physical activity can be.”
The YMCA Family Day events, being held Feb. 18 are free to all, “celebrating healthy growth and development of children and their families,” Gregor said.
Events run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., including family gym games for those with two to 12 year olds from 11 a.m. until noon; a family swim for those with children up to 14 years old from noon until 1 p.m.; an open swim for all ages from 1 until 3 p.m.; family obstacle races for all ages from 1 until 1:30 p.m.; family boot camp for those six and over from 2 until 2:30 p.m. and an all-ages family yoga session from 2:30 until 3 p.m.
The Strong Kids campaign gets underway Feb. 16. Gregor explained it’s the program that helps subsidize local residents and families for YMCA memberships who otherwise would not be able to afford one.
“We don’t think there should be any barriers to a healthier lifestyle and that’s what the program is for,” she said, adding already more than 300 people are receiving assistance from the Gravenhurst Y.
