Parenting workshop will motivate and reinvigorate
GRAVENHURST - Gravenhurst Public School and Gravenhurst High School are joining their positive forces and hosting two free workshops for local parents.
Thanks to provincial education grants of $1,000 to each school to engage parents, motivational speaker and parenting expert Monique Howat will be speaking in Gravenhurst.
Gravenhurst Public School parent council chair Amanda Pallister said by the two schools combining their granted resources, Howat will be able to host a session specifically for parents of high school students and one for those with elementary-aged children.
“We would really love to get a lot of parents to come out,” she said. “It should be quite enlightening and some fun too. She’s a very well-known motivational speaker, who I think people will love to hear.”
Howat has been running parent and business motivational sessions since the late 1990s and will bring her “How to Raise Confident and Motivated Kids/Teens” sessions to the high school cafeteria on April 9. The session for those with elementary-aged children runs from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. for parents of secondary school youth.
Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by April 4, including the number of people attending the workshop and the number and ages of children requiring child care, by calling the high school at 705-687-2283. There is no cost to attend and there will be free child care provided by Muskoka Family Focus, with free pizza and movies for the children and free refreshments and light snacks provided for all.
Howat describes her interactive parenting workshops as focusing on confidence, motivation and empowerment. Parents will learn coping tools to help them raise confident and motivated children.
“If you have ever felt overwhelmed and defeated in parenthood, this workshop is an injection of enthusiasm and empowerment,” she said.
