MUSKOKA – After two successful Wonderful Women Week festivities, organizers are already preparing for the 2013 event in an effort to gain as much community participation as possible.
The event takes place the week of March 8 in recognition of International Women’s Day.
“It’s an annual celebration of wonderful women in our community and beyond who inspire us, who guide us – it can be your mom, a celebrity,” said Kathie Groomes, store manager at Revibe, where the idea blossomed. “It’s a space to raise awareness of different women’s issues and women’s causes. We want to showcase different charities, anything that’s positive-women focused.”
Organizers encourage businesses, organizations and residents to come up with various fundraising events during the week to raise money for a women-focused charity of their choice.
“Women are very undervalued and it’s about time that society is able to have this outlet just to say ‘thank you,’ or ‘I appreciate you,’ or something positive about women and to support women’s organizations,” Groomes said. “It gives us a chance to showcase local women who inspire us and are creating a better tomorrow for other women.”
Right now organizers are looking for people who want to participate on that particular week or who want to join the committee. The Huntsville Place Mall will be providing space for women’s groups to set-up booths throughout the week in March to promote themselves.

“We want young women to see that it’s okay to be strong and powerful and to make your own decisions,” said Groomes.
