Poppies continue to help patients at WPSHC

Huntsville Forester

In January Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr Smythe asked his patients to help buy a new $150,000 c-Arm for the local surgical unit.
During orthopedic surgeries or when mending trauma fractures the doctor uses this small camera.
The machine at the Health Centre has been broken for months and the borrowed one is in constant repair.
Called a c-Arm because of its shape the equipment is designed to pass over the patient while on a surgical table.
It can be rotated sideways, above and around the patient for total access when fluoroscopy is needed. Fluoroscopy is live in motion TV coverage of any part of the human body.
Examples of use are orthopedics, surgical intervention, central lines, catheter positions, all abdominal studies plus it can be used in regular x-ray rooms as well as surgical.
This totally portable unit is a must-have in the hospital!
Without donors the Foundation could not entertain buying the replacement equipment.
Recently, the Legion donated $10,000 from the 2011 poppy campaign towards the much needed c-Arm bringing the accumulated total to:  $113,000, leaving $37,000 to accumulate.
