Love the label

Love the label - Related Image. Marina and Natalie deMarco give an energetic and insightful presentation on all things foul in cosmetics. Pamela Steel

Last night I was proud and humbled to be voted onto the board of directors for the Muskoka YWCA.

I've been a member for several years, but am excited to get more involved in this organization which provides so many opportunities for personal growth in our community.

Go Y!

A perfect example of the empowering types of conversations the YWCA keeps the community engaged in was the presentation last night by a group of Nipissing students who run Love The Label.

Their quest?

To inform people about all the chemicals that are in cosmetics and personal care products so we can make an informed choice about the gunk we put on our skin.

Everyone knows our skin is our largest organ, but somehow we don't easily make the connection that things applied topically can deliver all sorts of toxins to our bloodstream.

Like lead in your lipstick. Is it really a good idea to put lead products on your lips? Isn't that kind of like eating paint chips?

The young women were passionate about their message, and their energy was contagious. At one point they asked for a group hug.

Who doesn't love group hugs?

To find out more about Love the Label visit their website at lovethelabel.ca. Or visit the YWCA website to watch the local film on the subject Fairly Foul. They've had 10,000 visitors already. Why not see what everyone is talking about. Go to www.ywcamuskoka.com.
