Joerg Franz Rosenthal

Joerg went to be with his Lord on Friday, June 29, 2007, passing away suddenly in Muskoka in his 64th year.

Beloved husband of Marilyn (Taylor). Proud father of his four girls: Kristine, Jennifer, Katie and Aimee. Son of the late Fritz and Margarete. Dear brother of Margret and the late Manfred.

A celebration of Joerg’s life was held at Glenwood Chapel on July 4, 2007.

Interment took place at the Christ Church, Gregory cemetery. Pallbearers were Denis Jean-Marie, Jack Jennings, Kristine, Jennifer, Katie and Aimee Rosenthal.
Joerg was born in Berlinchen, a small town in northeastern Germany, on August 18, 1943. In 1957, Joerg and his family moved to Canada, where they lived in Toronto. He attended Central Technical School, and went on to earn a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Toronto. After his graduation, Joerg started work at Corning Glass Works in Bracebridge in the mixing and melting department.

On August 14, 1971, Joerg married Marilyn Taylor of Windermere, his supportive wife of almost 36 years. He met her at Pinegrove Baptist Church, where he was involved in youth work. In May, 1972, they purchased Waters’ Marina near Minett.
They operated it as Joseph River Marina for the next 35 years, with their family and faithful employee, Denis Jean-Marie. Joerg was known by his customers as a person who would go out of his way to be accommodating and he always had the highest standard of workmanship. During the earlier years of running the marina, Joerg also sold real estate with Peter G. Lush and Associates.

Joerg worked hard all his life. He enjoyed the work he did, whether at the marina or working on the log cabin home that he designed himself. Joerg always had a positive outlook, even with his health problems. He was quick to count his blessings and appreciated the little things in life. Even with his busy schedule, he made an extra effort to spend time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting in the fall. Joerg had a special appreciation for nature, which is why Muskoka appealed to him so much.

He attended Glenwood Chapel for the later part of his life and was involved in the ministry in various ways. He served as chairman of the board for many years and played an integral part in the building of the new church.

Joerg enjoyed travelling, and a few years ago he discovered Newfoundland, which became like a second home to him. Just weeks before he died, he finally got to see icebergs in Twillingate, the iceberg capital of the world.

Joerg will be dearly missed. As so many have said, “Muskoka just won’t be the same without him.” Joerg will live on in our hearts and minds as we remember a wonderful husband, a dedicated father and a caring and warm-hearted friend.
